How Can Speech Therapy Benefit Adults?
With over 20 years of experience in medical speech pathology, Cecelia has extensive experience, from treating acute and complex medical conditions to everyday problem solving for people experiencing memory difficulties.

Special areas of interest and training include stroke recovery, brain injury, head and neck cancer, Parkinson’s and dysphagia (swallow difficulties).
I have met families facing the challenges of communication, swallowing, voice or cognition after a major life event or diagnosis who believe this is their new permanent reality. But a skilled speech pathologist can be your guide on a journey to a richer, more fulfilling life.

What Are the Benefits of Home Visits?
The immediate advantage of home visits is the sheer convenience it offers. Gone are the days of battling traffic, hunting for parking, enduring lobby wait times, only to retrace your steps through traffic once more. However, there are even more benefits to be found within the therapy itself. There is the opportunity to utilize familiar items in your own living space. Your treasured books, everyday routines, or personal calendar can become powerful tools for eliciting language or practicing a memory strategy, which then fosters a deeper connection to the therapy process.
We can seamlessly incorporate your family members and even your beloved pets into the therapeutic process. This natural setting provides the speech language pathologist, with valuable insights into what strategies are working effectively and where additional support may be needed.
In-home therapy not only maximizes convenience but also optimizes therapy experience, ultimately leading to more effective results.
How Long Does Speech Therapy Typically Last?
Therapy sessions typically last 30 minutes to an hour. How long a course of speech therapy lasts is determined by the condition and the individual’s goals. I have had such success in vocal cord dysfunction that 1 visit was all that was needed. On the other hand, someone with severe aphasia and apraxia can continue to make progress and benefit from speech therapy for a year or more.
Do I Need a Referral from a Doctor?
Not always, but it can help. If you are planning to pay for services out of pocket, you won’t need a doctor’s referral. But most health insurances require a doctor’s referral to start speech therapy. Check your health care benefits or contact Amplify and we can help with the process.
