Frequently Asked Questions
What COVID precautions is Amplify speech therapy taking?
Amplify is following all medical precautions and local recommendations for delivering safe and quality therapy. The speech pathologist is vaccinated and boosted and wears a mask. All supplies are sanitized between clients. In-person therapy is conducted outdoors when possible (see below for more details). Because of the nature of speech therapy, it is sometimes helpful to lower a mask to demonstrate a speech or swallow technique but this is done sparingly and only with the client's consent. Amplify takes every measure to balance the client's comfort with delivering high quality care.
What does therapy in my home look like?
Attending doctor's and therapy appointments has been complicated by the pandemic. Amplify Speech Therapy is offering home visits to make speech therapy more accessible to everyone. This lets you minimize your exposure and allows for an experience that is accurate and unique to you. Home based therapy is more personalized because it incorporates your home situation and loved ones to ensure your communication or swallowing goals are meaningful from the start.
What exactly is teletherapy for speech?
Also called remote therapy, virtual therapy, teletherapy, and telehealth by Medicare, virtual speech therapy is therapy provided by video conference calls. Studies have shown it to be just as effective as traditional, in-person therapy for most conditions. Teletherapy has existed for decades but has become more prevalent and widely accepted after the pandemic. It has been approved by Medicare for speech therapy during the current health emergency. Read more about teletherapy and its effectiveness on this blog post.
How do I know if teletherapy is the right fit for me?
There are several factors to consider and the Speech Pathologist can help by asking the right questions. Often times the diagnosis will determine the best delivery method. In some cases, it is ideal to start with an in-person evaluation then continue therapy session remotely. If you aren't sure, start with a free consultation to discuss your specific situation.
How do I meet with the speech therapist?
If meeting remotely, a secure link will be shared with you before your scheduled session. Each teletherapy visit is performed over a videoconference call that is HIPAA compliant. All you will need is a modern computer or tablet and stable internet connection. More guidance on participating in a teletherapy session can be found here.
Does my insurance cover teletherapy?
Medicare has approved teletherapy during the pandemic and we are hopeful it will continue to do so long after. Many other private insurances have followed suit, but it is important to check with your insurance carrier prior to your first session. Contact Amplify if you still have questions
